How big is a Newfoundland fully grown?
Newfoundland males can grow to 27-28 inches tall and weigh as much as 160+ pounds.
Newfoundland females can grow to 25-26 inches tall and weigh as much as 120+ pounds.
Is a Newfoundland a good family dog?
Newfoundlands are great family dogs! The breed is nicknamed the “Nanny Dog” as they love being around people and kids. Although they make great companions for people of all ages, their large size should be taken into consideration before adding one to your family.
Are Newfoundlands high energy?
Newfoundlands are very easy-going dogs. They do not need a lot of exercise/play though they should be cared for with moderate movement. They are great animals to have around young kids as they possess a steady and gentle attitude.
What is the average lifespan of a Newfoundland?
Like any animal, their age can vary based on their care and genetics. Typically, the average lifespan of a Newfoundland is 8 – 10 years.
Are Newfoundlands outside or inside dogs?
Newfies are classified as “working” dogs though they are much more than that. They are able to survive in varying climates, however, the overall temperatures should be considered when leaving them outside. Heat exhaustion is a real concern if they are left unattended due to their large fur coats. Newfies are bred for colder climates which makes them ideal winter dogs. Their couch potato like demeanor makes them suitable for apartment life as well. Provided they go on walks for some exercise.
